Do you really want to keep Cockatiel?

I think first of all you should ask yourself about the question. If you are looking for this answer. I would like to guide you on this and also will highlight some important point that you should take into consideration.

Keeping Cockatiel costs money. However, the good news is that the amount is depend on you. Whether you want to keep one or many birds. It also depend on the standard of product that you want, say if you want to buy the best cage in town, lovely toys and expensive (imported) accessories, then the hobby will become extremely expensive.

However, if you choose do DIY the cage and supply your DIY accessories, then the cost of this hobby is manageable. In Kuala Lumpur, the standard 1.5 foot X 1.5 foot X 3 foot cage is about RM70.00. However if you choose to DIY the cage the cost of cage measured 3 foot X 3 foot X 2 foot is only about RM30-RM40 only. However, you should realize that the final result can be vary… depending on you skill. One thing that I would like to point out here is that you shouldn’t compromise on the comfortable of your Cockatiel.

If you barter or sell the young you breed and use the money to buy better stock or buy better accessories, than it can save you lots of money. However it need lots of patient if you want to breed the birds.

Regarding the food expense, if you only keep pet Cockatiel or only pair of Cockatiel, then the cost is still manageable in Kuala Lumpur, as I prepare this the price of a sunflower seed is about RM4.00-RM6.00 per kilogram and for vegetable and fruit it is very cheap.

You also should ask yourself, about what kind of pet hat your are looking for I bring out this question, because I also keep many pets (last time) when still live in the countryside. I have come across varieties of birds, civet, flying fox, bam boon, squirrels, fish, wild cat, monkeys, rabbit, many species of tortoise and even grass hopper. Each of them required different treat and they can give you different type of enjoyment. For pet Cockatiel, you have to clean and give them food everyday, I while they can create lots of enjoyment. However, you cannot keep them in your pocket and bring them to the park (you can do this with your chip monk or pet squirrel)
