How to select a good quality leather

Selecting leather

This morning I had a chance to talk to hawkeagle and it is kind of him to share few tips in selecting leather.

Well, I used to think that the most toughest leather is the one that is thick and is from some species of animals. However, seem like it is not the right way to select a good leather.

Based on hawkeagle, a good leather is made, it will be based on the method the leather is prepared. Good preparation will create a good and tough leather and otherwise.

Okay, here is one of the method that he shared on how to select the leather. When we select the leather, we should try it. To test the leather, ask for a small portion of the leather from the seller. Then, used a knife or scissor and make a small cut to the leather. Then, try to tear the leather with your bare hand. A good leather will be very difficult to tear while a low quality leather will be easily tear off.

In some case, don’t be surprise if the thicker leather is easier to tear compared to thinner leather.

Hi,

Just to share, I found a place in K.L near petaling street that sells leather. If you are walking through petaling street from Kotaraya compleks, just walk straight past petaling street untill meet a junction where that famous petshop is(cant remember the name) walk further ahead(dont go into the petshop road) and you will find a leather shop in about 50 metres away.

Sorry for the lousy guidance. Its a nice leather shop with lotsa choice if you wanna make jesse, hood, anklet, glove etc :)

regards,

Wan
