Goshawk

Postby Tanin » Sun Jan 14, 2007 1:16 am

Goshawk is the largest true hawk, which is the same size of harris hawk. They are known as one of the most temperamental of all bird of prey..

Here is some information about them:

The Northern Goshawk is legendary for its ferocity, beauty and amazing flight skills. In ancient Persia it was called Baz-Nama, the King Hawk, and in medieval Europe it was the most prized of all falconry hawks. Linnaeus named it Accipiter gentilis in the 16th century, for its nobility (gentilis) and awesome ability to seize (accipere) squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other prey on the fly.

Yep, you're right Tanin, this is the most valued Accipiter for Falconry.

They are very versatile, yet savage. Could be used to hunt pheasants, ducks, etc2.

I heard that they are one of the most difficult falconry bird. One season in the mews and the manning and training have to start all over :(

All I know is that all accipiters should be imprinted. If WC, it is very difficult to train them. They have a high stress level.

Sometimes, the WCs are very aggressive towards human.

More like owls to me I guess...
