Vet for Magpie needed urgently

Postby Lydia » Mon Jul 04, 2016 8:47 am

Hi, something wrong happened to my dad's magpie's leg. It cant stand and it's always on the ground (limping). It looks like in pain and been trying to call to many Vet clinics but none of them have experience in treating birds.

Anyone can help out here, please? :(

Hi Lydia,

how old is the bird and what happen before it become like that? any possibilities that it was attacked by cats or any other birds? Any obvious injuries that you can see?

Hi Tanin,

The bird is less than 2 yrs old. We are suspecting a cat but the bird is in the cage. It just happened yesterday morning. We are hoping a vet can give us a clear diagnosis. Do you have any contact?
UPM clinic is closed for this whole week.

Thank you.

it indeed sound like cat issue.

There are a vet near bulatan pahang (newar HKL). unfortunately, I am not aware of their contact number. I saw the billboard said that they open 24 hours. maybe they still open during this holiday.

Hi Tanin,

I've called unfortunately they do not take any consultation for birds.
They asked me to reach out to UPM.
The bird's condition has worsen suddenly and the neck seems to lean backwards.
Do you have any idea how long can a magpie lives? I dont think he can hold on any longer :'(

the livespan on the magpie depend on the condition, but I think most of it will be more than 2 years in captivity. in your case, if there are no obvious injuries and if the magpie still able to drink and eat on his own, maybe one of the method to help him while waiting for the vet is to provide him with Vitamin B complex. sometimes, due to the vitamin deficiency, it will affect their nerve and some of them will have fit etc... I am not sure on the condition of your magpie, but maybe can try.
Best Regards,
Tanin
