Their average weight is 400 grams (0.88 lb), with an average length of 33 centimetres (13 in) and an average wingspan of 46–52 cm. The Congo subspecies is a lighter grey, with darker grey over the head and both wings, while the head and body feathers have a slight white edge to them. The tail feathers are red. The Timneh subspecies is a darker gray and has a dark maroon colored tail as well as having a portion of their beak being light pink in color.

African Gray Breeding Pair Need for Help

Postby tongseng9090 » Mon Aug 27, 2012 1:36 pm

Hi all, i got few questions for my new CAG pair . I keep them only 2 month, they are wild bird for breeding .

Every time when they see people they will hide in the nest box .

Everyday some time the male will acttack the female, some time they will eat togather and no fighting.

How to prevent the male acttack the female ? is it the CAG temperament is like that ?

Like this happen they still can breed or not ? what i need to do ?

Anyone wish to help can email to me - tongseng8080@yahoo.com.sg

thanks :newhere:

Hello bro,

I dont have any experiance with grey... but in my opinion, you will need to monitor when the male attack the female so it will not go overboard... Having said that, since they are eating together, I guess it is not very serious. btw, they are DNA confirm as a pair right?

Best of luck
Best Regards,
Tanin

Hi Tanin,

Thanks 4 your reply . Not very serious, some time the male seem like chase after the female, the female will move away or scream to resist .

They not really bite . Is it they need sometime to accept each other ? like this situation they still possible to bread ?

thanks :tq

It is really hard to judge these birds. So just stay patient. May be they need some time to get along with each other.
