hi there.

most hwamei keepers in singapore and malaysia don't feed their hwameis with fruits.

however, i read that in the states they do provide them with fruits.

personally, i do not recommend feeding fruits, as your bird may have already been accustomed to the asian way of keeping hwameis.

by suddenly introducing fruits, even if they do take it, their digestive tracts might not be able to handle it.

just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the info.
I juz thought of giving fruits as supplement. About digestive tracts i do agree with you. The interest of keeping Hwa mei is catching up over here in KL after almost 20 yrs due to the ban. The topic of commercial food will surely benefit new keeper.

yup.

however, some keepers have reported that by giving fruits, their stools are no longer watery, but in solid form.

in my opinion, the guide here would be to give in small amounts, and slowly increasing it little by little, just like how we open the cage cloth.

haha at the same time, i just acquired a new hwamei, stubborn on food intake. keeping my fingers crossed that it would settle in soon!

I juz brought a fully jadi HM with open tail but most of it tails broke off half way during transporting. Can't wait for next molting so ask Ah soon to pull off all the tail and let it grow back ke..ke.. have to wait for about 2 mths before it fully grow back lor....

hey guys, just to reignite this thread.

i was introduced gold king commercial food for hwamei, anyone tried this? read in an article that chicken feed based food is best for hwamei, not sure how true is this...

anyone can vouch for this? or anyone else had better luck with other brands, such as lucky star or another that goes by something emas?

Yeap !!! I've heard about chicken based feed for Hwa mei, some say it good but i have not try. I feed my birds with sing song brand plus meal worms and crickets so far so good.
My worry is that chicken based food are heavyly chemically treated juz my opinion only...
