Damaged feathers

I observe that many people like to keep this small bird for their beautiful song. Zosterops (Zosterops Palpebrosa) is normally called 'Mata Puteh" (white eye) in this region.

Oh dear, that is bad and sad. Yes, the first batch of new feathers are all sticking out badly.

I am trying something new for the next few weeks to see if it can be improved.

Hi, I am back. My somersault bird is cured but this damaged feathers still not. I just got this feeling it got to do with him no taking care of his feathers.

The reasons I am saying this are: He tends not to bathe unless you put him into the bathing cage in the afternoon. even if he bathe himself, the don't groom after bathe unlike my other birds. When he is left in his cage, he never groom his feather!

I tired spraying him so wet everyday and cover him up daily. His feathers seems better after 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to continue but I am studying to see if there are better method to make him bathe and groom.

Any good idea?

HI BukitTimah,

I ever have one bird like yours that don't bath and with damaged feathers. I didn't hold the bird for long, though I try everything I can during that period.

I believe the bird is deprived and changed in character. Maybe you can try isolate it from other birds and see how it goes.

I used to have a hua mei that don't bath. So I fed up and hang it outside whenever it rains, let the bird soak in rain water. Later, the hua mei seemed to like water and began to bath itself. I do not know if it works for your puteh, perhaps you can try for a while.

Just my 2 cents opinion...
