Help Mealworms addicted.

Postby JasonBirds » Tue Apr 05, 2016 10:13 am

I can get my Shama bird to eat anything except mealworms!!

It won't eat any dry feed.. I tried 3 different kinds.

It won't eat any other live food.. I tried guppy fish, crickets, moths.

It won't eat egg yolk or chickens feed.

It has dry feed available in the cage and I only give it 10 mealworms a day.

What can I do to get it to eat other food?

try this...

cut the mealworm into small pieces and mixed it with the dry pellets. take another two mealworm and cut it into 4 so it is large in size and the bird can see it. but on top of the pellets and put it in the cage. Normally the bird will take the big one and can see the small one mixed in the pellets. when he pick on the worm, it will also taste the pellets, and will encourage it to eat after a week or so.

You have to repeat this everyday with smaller and smaller piece of worm (cut it smaller).

Hope that help.

Tanin

It worked.

Thank you for your great advise.

It took a long time but now my Shama will eat its dry feed and also dried flies, gecko tails, and waxworm!

I am so pleased.

After eating the other foods he started to molt his feathers and not has his new feathers and look beautiful and clean and bright.

I am still trying to get him to eat egg yolk and guppies. His favourite food is moths. But they are hard to catch so he only gets 2 or 3 a week.

Well done.
