Pacific Parrotlet / Celestial Parrotlet

Postby JasonBirds » Wed May 10, 2017 4:18 pm

Hi. I have a pair of Pacific Parrotlets and would like to say they make great pets.

They are easy to care for, very quiet, and have beautiful bright green feathers, the male has bright blue over his eyes and on his back.

The eat cockatiel seed mix, vegetables and some fruit. They are tiny, but like a large cage to fly about in play in.

Anyone else keep these birds and want to share their experience with them?

and if I recalled correctly, the method to sex them is by spread their wings and observe the blue dot... if I am not mistake the one with blue colour is male while the female doesn't have the blue dot

You are right. The males has a blue back.. and blue over his eyes... like in the photo above. The female is usually all green with no blue, but sometimes has little blue over her eyes.

They are so cute... very quiet. A single bird will get very tame... and they behave like the big Amazon parrots, not like the lovebirds or budgies.

The only 'bad' thing about them is they are VERY aggressive to other birds. Only keep one in a cage and don't mix them with other birds, they can easily kill them!!

You can keep a single bird for a pet, or you can keep a male and female pair. But still be careful, because some times the female can attack the male.. and they like to bite off each other toes!!
